Normally I wouldn’t put quite this much time into making a card for someone but it was for my mum’s birthday and she appreciated it. The image is based on a Margaret Preston oil which I loved. (I’ve cropped it slightly.) The woman is my favourite artist;  from her many, many still life paintings it appeared she was surrounded by so many gorgeous flowers, vases and textiles I often wish I could raid her studio.

It was interesting to try to capture the essence of oils in pencil – I tried to mimic the brush strokes and direction where I could. And yes, when you’ve indulged in a box of 72 Faber Castell drawing pencils, it seems churlish not to include as many of the colours as possible.
