Pa bloody well won’t

OK so it is actually Raw Umber but you have to admit, it may as well be marmite (or vegemite or promite). My first go at tonal under-painting in oils.

Given my fetish for colour you can understand how limiting this was in my first painting class for ages. Itching to get back to those creamy oils in glorious tints with blending fantasies etc.
Nope. Just do it all in brown. ‘You mean all of it? Paint it all in brown. And then paint it all over again in colour?’

I mean, theoretically I get it. But really?
